My Experience at Arancia Physical Therapy

It’s been 100 days since I started my journey as a Physical Therapist at Arancia PT. What an amazing experience it has been!

It all began back in February when I needed physical therapy myself (PTs need PT too!). I’m new to Rhode Island, so naturally, I did a quick Google search to research where I could get the best possible care. Arancia caught my eye right away, and I knew as soon as I made the call that this would be the right fit. The receptionist was warm, understanding, and did more listening than talking. Lucky for me, she was able to get me in to see Dr. Jess on a cancellation that week! I left my first session with Dr. Jess feeling great, knowing I was going to get better in her expert hands and confident with our detailed plan of care. Not only was I impressed by Dr. Jess’s skilled touch and wealth of knowledge, but I was also impressed by the clinic culture; it’s not often you leave a doctor's office raving about your patient experience these days! Needless to say, when an opportunity to work with Jess and her team came up, I jumped on it.

My background is a mix of sports medicine and general outpatient orthopedics. I worked full-time at a very busy, sports med clinic in Toronto, and I was also fortunate to work with the Canadian National Gymnastics Team, which mainly involved travel to competitions and treatment at the Pam-Am Centre. At the clinic, I was extremely lucky to work with amazing doctors and therapists and learn so much during my first decade of practice. However, that type of setting comes with its challenges, leaving me and often patients frustrated. Thankfully, my experience working at Arancia has been different.

I wanted to share some of the reasons why working at Arancia is like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

First off, and perhaps my favorite thing of all, has been the amount of time I can spend with patients. Going from 20 or 30 minutes to a full hour, 1:1 has been game-changing. I feel amazing knowing I can do everything I need to do that session for the patient. I no longer feel rushed or stressed out trying to stay on time. And I can see my patients truly being able to let go and relax and get the most out of their sessions. All of this makes for a better patient and therapist experience!

Additionally, I’d like to point out how wonderful the environment is at Arancia. The space is warm and inviting, the music is calming, and the treatment rooms are private and quiet. Coming from the world of traditional PT, this is night and day! It especially makes a huge difference to have private treatment spaces vs being in an open gym. This privacy for our patients allows them to feel more comfortable opening up, which ultimately helps us get to the root of the problems faster.

Lastly, not only is the space so lovely to work in, but the energy in our space is good. Traditional healthcare settings can be very busy and sometimes give off hectic and stressful energy. Which is not what you need when you’re already stressed about an injury!

My time here at Arancia has really re-ignited my love for the PT profession and inspired me to continue learning and growing in this field. I’m super grateful to be here working with our amazing patients and team! The future is bright at Arancia!
