Women's Empowerment Month; Empowering YOU to Address Your Pelvic Health!
Seeing as it is Women's Empowerment and History Month, we wanted to highlight an issue that we see with our female patients time and time again. As a clinic that specializes in pelvic health, we see a lot of women come through our doors who were left by physicians, friends, or family members feeling like they did not deserve the specialty care that they so desperately were seeking. In fact, 40% of women who reported suffering from painful intercourse do not seek treatment for their symptoms. We have a message for those women out there who are suffering from incontinence after child-bearing, painful sex, pelvic pain, endometriosis, or any other sexual health condition:
You are not broken, you are deserving and worthy of care! One of our missions is to empower women to seek individualized care. Your provider should be someone that listens to you, understands your goals, hesitations, and does not see you as a statistic.
If you have been told by a provider that your symptoms are in your head or that you have no options besides surgery and medication, get a second opinion! Your health is in your hands, and you have the power of choice over your own body. We are so passionate about this because we know and have spoken to so many women who have suffered in silence for years, missing out on beloved activities and intimacy due to the shame, embarrassment, or the let-down of their providers.
Don't Leave Your Pelvic Health Up to Time Alone! Time is not on our side when it comes to our pelvic health. In fact, sitting on any dysfunction or discomfort can lead to worse issues down the line and could lead you to need invasive procedures depending on the concern. This is not to scare you, but to show you another reason why we are so insistent on women seeking out pelvic healthcare. Surgery should never be the first resort and hopefully, most women will stop needing it for things like prolapse and incontinence because they have sought out physical therapy first! We want to empower you to know this is NOT something to be brushed under the rug or pushed aside to prioritize other things or other people. Your health matters and the only one who can advocate for your best health decisions is you.
Whether you experience chronic pain, are a victim of trauma, seeking preventative measures, or have lingering postpartum symptoms, your pelvic health matters! No matter your age, history, or concern, you deserve to feel empowered to seek care. We are here to tell you that the pain is NOT in your head, it is NOT normal to be peeing your pants, and you should NOT need a glass of wine to enjoy intercourse. We see you and we are here for you.
