2022 Resolution Solutions: How to Make Your Resolutions Stick!

December27,2021

It’s that time of year again where we reflect on the past year and come up with ways to improve and make 2022 even more successful. It’s our fresh start, a chance to reach new heights and to better ourselves and our systems. The biggest challenge is stretching this motivation for as long as possible! The best way to do this is to go into the year with a plan and with resolutions worth sticking to. Below are some examples and ideas for new year’s resolutions and some tips and advice to make them stick.

  1. Prioritize yourself and your health.

How to make it stick: Schedule out your doctor’s visits, workout classes, PT sessions, etc. For the year NOW! That way, you are likely to stick to what is already on your calendar and you have previously carved out me-time. Try to hold yourself to those dates to keep yourself on track!

  • Be Kinder to Yourself

How to make it stick: There are many ways to keep this goal depending on what you need. Put stickies on your mirrors that remind you of your worth and of your beauty. Schedule time throughout the year to treat yourself to a spa day! Buy your favorite type of cookie because your life is worth enjoying and a couple of cookies are better for the soul than they are bad for the body!! Whatever you need, try to keep physical reminders so that you can remember daily how deserving you are of your own gentleness and kindness.

  • Be more environmentally friendly

How to make it stick: Keep tote bags in your car to limit your plastic use. Get yourself a few reusable water bottles to have at home, at work, and in the car for wherever you may go! Set dates to go through and donate your unwanted clothes. Buy second-hand yourself! There are many ways to be more environmentally conscious, but having physical reminders like bags and water bottles are good ways to keep yourself to your goal! Another way might be to buy yourself a bike for Christmas, and limit those carbon emissions when the sun does come out!

  • Keep in Touch with Friends/Family more

How to make it stick: Set reminders in your phone calendar for the whole year to check in with friends and family. Use specific names and it can be as quick as a check-in text or a regular coffee date. Either way this can help for those who get wrapped up in their own stress and want to make time for their friends and extended family, especially if they don’t live nearby. As much as it is nice for them to hear from you, we all need friend time to relax and vent about our own lives, so this is one way to keep yourself sane in 2022. If you don’t have one already, make a group-chat with your close friends so you can all keep tabs together!

  • Prioritize Your Mental Health

How to make it stick: There are so many ways to keep on top of this throughout 2022, and here are some of our favorites:

  • Keep to a workout schedule
  • Sign up for therapy
  • Keep a journal
  • Make a morning/nighttime ritual and stick to it. This can be meditation, a skin care regimen, or even just reading a book. Having a routine lets your brain know it’s time to relax or it’s time to be productive.
  • Eat foods that nourish your body and give you energy
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep at night. If you have trouble sleeping, consult with your doctor.
  • Know when to say NO. Try not to pile too much on to your plate and don’t be afraid to set boundaries with people.
  • Schedule a day each month/week that is not dedicated to anyone else but you. Refill that tank!
  • Cut out the negativity. This comes with setting boundaries with people or can be to just try and adjust your mindset and way of thinking.
  • To be More Organized

How to make it stick: The key to organization is giving yourself the time to plan! Take an hour of your holiday and use it to map out your year. Get comfortable with your phone calendar or a planner and give yourself reminders for each day. And I mean for the year! Make regular reminders to schedule doctor or therapy visits, reminders to clean out your car, grocery lists, whatever you can think of! That way you won’t be in a scramble to get things done and your phone or calendar can do all of the remembering for you! 🙂

These are just some ideas for resolutions to help you brainstorm for your new year’s resolutions and to help to make them last! The biggest and most helpful tip for making your resolution last is by planning ahead and utilizing your phone and or planner!
